NOAA Tracks Smoke Drifting from Canadian Wildfires over the Atlantic Ocean
🔥 The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is closely tracking smoke from Canadian wildfires that moved from the Northeastern United States over the Atlantic Ocean on June 9th.
🛰️ They are using the Advanced Baseline Imager on the GOES-East weather satellite to trace the smoke's movement. The ABI provides observations every five minutes, and images of the smoke's path can be viewed on NOAA's GeoColor website. NOAA's Aerosol Watch program also assists in assessing local air quality using satellite imagery.
(Context) A storm over Eastern Canada on June 8th pushed smoke from over 100 fires in Quebec southward towards the Mid-Atlantic and eventually over the Atlantic Ocean.
